What is a node?

nodes are a complex matrix of navigation points in a website

After a visitor types in your URL they get a 'home page'.

  • Your Home Page could be considered node/1.
  • The visitor then clicks on the About Page, node/2.
  • Next they click on the Products Page, node/3...  etc.

So what is the big deal and why call something a node?

If that same visitor was to click on your Blog, are blog / journal entries also considered a page? Say you are a high tech webmaster and you have some audio on your site. The visitor then goes to your Audio jukebox and clicks on a streaming MP3 to hear your favorite tracks. Maybe the visitor goes to the video player and watches your product demonstration....

Definition:

Node is a navigation point where a visitor can retrieve information data like Text Blocks / Images / Products / Files / Audio / Videos / Stories.

Within Drupal there are powerful ways to modify and present information. Go to the Story Teaser Views for more information.  Don't think of your website as a bunch of pages but instead a collection of nodes. We have produced sites with over 1,000 nodes of content and growing.

Website Techincal Tip:

The use of node id allows direct pathing for internal links. With the use of Clean URL's the adminstrator can change each website node path into a keyword rich URL, over and over again, while your internal URL linking scheme remains intact.

A very powerful advantage of using our system, covered in the WebMASTER Plans .
